성조기 (노래)
「성조기」(The Star-Spangled Banner)는 미국의 국가이다.
1814년에 프랜시스 스캇 키가 작사. 곡조는 영국의 권주가인 「천국의 아나크레온에게」를 이용한다. 독립전쟁중 키가 목격한 미국군의 승리와 펄럭이는 성조기를 보고 영감을 받아 시 Defence of Fort McHenry를 짓고 신문에 발표한 것을 영국의 권주가 가락에 맞추어 부르면서 현재의 제목이 붙여졌다. 법률상 정식 국가가 된 것은 1931년이다.
체육 경기, 연방 정부의 행사 등에서는 보통 기립하여 1절을 제창한다. 반주 없이 부르기도 한다. 의외로 곡조가 쉽지 않아서, 대부분 독창이나 중창을 하고 행사 참석자들은 따로 노래하지 않는다. 체육 경기를 관람하는 외국인, 특히 국가 제창과 국기에 대한 경례를 하지 않는 국가에서 온 외국인들은 뻘쭘해질 수밖에 없다. 영국과의 행사에서는 무조건 1절만 제창한다.

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,

Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,

'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust.'
